Breton Bay Days

B House at Breton Bay

Another fantastic weekend started on Friday afternoon with our drive down to the B family beach cottage in southern Maryland. It took 2 hours (45 minutes longer than normal) due to the long weekend exodus out of town, but was a pleasant ride. I immediately headed for the bathroom and ripped down the old 60's shower curtain, window curtains (made out of the plastic shower curtain), and put up the new shower curtain, liners and towels. Sadly, I forgot to take some "before" pix. The bathroom looked 60% better with just that change. It was a simple tacos and a dvd kind of evening with "Hitch" being the movie of choice. Pretty cute movie.
Saturday was a very busy day. I headed off to Target to look for some things for the house while John and Mike loaded up the old pick-up with junk to take to the dump. I met up with them at Lowes and helped pick out a new vanity and faucet. John started on the bathroom renovation by removing the old vanity and putting down new vinyl floor tile. He put in the new vanity and did a little more tile before calling it quits. John helped Mike pull the boat out of the water, as there was a leak somewhere. Turns out it was some hose in the back that was only half clamped on. Whew! An easy fix that would wait for the next day. We headed out to dinner at the Happy Dragon, which is a surprisingly good Chinese restaurant not far from the house. The evening ended with another dvd - "Harold & Kumar go to White Castle".
Sunday - the big party! We had invited about 20 friends to come down. It was a whirl through BJ's Warehouse to pick up some food, a stop at a roadside stand to buy farm fresh corn and back home. William arrived with his boat around 11:30. After putting William's boat in the water, it too was taking in water. So, they had to drag it out and again, another easy fix. The plug in the back had not been put back in.
Folks started trickling in and Sean set up the volleyball net. Some enjoyed the pool, some just hung out by the water, and some played volleyball for the first time this summer. Burgers, dogs, hot sausage, Texas caviar, bean salad, corn on the cob and chips galore was on our menu. After dinner, about half the crew went out on the two boats and the others played more volleyball. Even John played!
After the boaters got back from their tour of the bay, we gathered everyone together to thank them for coming out and had William say his famous line... "Introducing for the first time, Mr. & Mrs. B", only this time, it wasn't a joke. Yes, John and I got married on Monday (the 27th). Just us. The way we wanted. We told our families on Monday and Tuesday, but hadn't told our friends. It was tough trying to decide who, when and how, as we knew there would be this big ordeal about "Why did you tell so-and-so before you told me?" and so forth. So, with most of our friends at the party, it seemed like the best time. One person, who was not at the party (although her husband came), is not so happy with me and John right now. Her husband called her, put me on the phone and I told her the news. She said she wasn't going to talk to us anymore. I'm not sure why she can't simply be happy for us. It's not our fault she didn't come to the party! But overall, even if I had told her before everyone else, I'm sure she would have been mad anyway, as John and I didn't get married in the manner in which she thought we should have done it (with all our friends in attendance).
The whole group threw us an impromptu wedding (on the volleyball court) officiated by Freddy. Nicole, Nate and Tori acted as photographers and Sean give away the "bride". It was quite hilarious. Unfortunately, I'm all sweaty and looking quite blimpish in the pics.
The evening ended with horseshoes. I believe the teams were William and Nate vs. Freddy and Khalid. The losing team got dragged on their butts down the hill by the winning team. Hope those dragging marks on your butt and back heal quickly, William! We were sad to see our friends leave, but were so happy everyone had a great time and that our secret was out.

Monday, the B family took one last trip on the boat. Mike and Griffin took a spin out on the inflatable float tube. Poor John lost his favorite hat while driving the boat. We parted ways with Mike, Diane, Joss and Griff as they headed to Diane's stepfather's house for a visit. We went home, cleaned up and joined everyone at Robert & Pokey's for their 4th of July party. It's their annual all day event beginning with breakfast, walking down to see the Takoma Park parade, more food and fun at the house, and ending with a walk to the junior high to view the fireworks.
Thanks to everyone who was able to make it down to Breton Bay and for making our weekend fun and special!

Ya know... I did say to elope and then tell everyone, but since it was MY idea, I think I should have got a little warning ahead of time!!!
Sheesh. So Jal is now officially off the market! Congrats to Mr. & Mrs. Jal!
