Seeing Stars

Remember last year for my 40th birthday, my request to hubby was a 2-month moratorium on his daily playing of the Stars CD “Set Yourself on Fire” every evening when he got home from work? Well, Saturday night (the 20th), we went to see Stars at the 9:30 Club. They were fantastic! I kind of know the songs, some I actually really like, but I don’t know them enough to sing every word. Many in the audience did, singing their hearts out.

OK... so let me start off this no-picture post by telling you I didn’t have my camera. I almost had my camera. I had one two years ago when we went to see Chris Isaac’s Holiday Show at the 9:30. But John said he didn’t think we could take a camera inside. But you could, as long as you weren’t using your flash or recording/filming professionally. Nuts!

I took my “I’m not carrying a purse” wallet, which only held my driver’s license, my debit card and about $5 in cash. I didn’t take my cell phone (which has a camera -- John’s does not). If I hadn’t listened to hubby and brought my camera, I SO would have taken a picture of this tall bleached blonde skinny chick who invaded my space with her dried out pony tail so I couldn’t see the stage. I had a very good view before BBC (bleached blond chick) and her friend squeezed into the spot in front of me. I let out a very loud “Merrrrrrr....” to John. A couple other people near me weren’t very happy with them either.

During the opening band’s performance, the crowd wasn’t that bad. In between shows, people started cramming themselves in. One sweaty guy (with his girlfriend) squeezed himself next to me after Stars had played a few songs. I mean, he was thisclose. I think he thought better of his positioning when the couple that had been standing next to me (before he and his girl moved in) kept on dancing and swaying to the music into sweaty guy.

The best coup of the evening was when BBC let a few people by her for better stage positioning. Two guys, very tall, taller than her (she was maybe an inch taller than John). She lost her view. HAH!!! Sometimes the stuff that goes on in the audience is just as entertaining as the actual show.

After the concert, we stopped by the Tastee Diner in Silver Spring for some food. Breakfast, to be exact. Pancakes and bacon for John; eggs, scrapple and toast for me. It’s been quite a while since the last time I went out on the town and then had breakfast before heading home!

John’s been waiting a long time for Stars’ latest album, “In Our Bedroom after the War”, to come out and probably longer for them to tour. I’d definitely go see them again... hopefully in a venue with seats.
