An OBX B-Day

Greetings from the OBX! It was not a bad drive yesterday; no 3 hour back-ups or anything like in May. Of course, most of the gang had arrived much earlier and were well ensconced in their rooms and outside hanging by the pool.

The afternoon was sunny, but the clouds and thunder rolled in and we did our usual Saturday night meal -- pizza! Then there was lots of hanging about, chatting, drinking, playing foosball.

Joey & William hit the beer bong as the losing foosball team:

Can you guess who was MVD (Most Valuable Drunk)? And no, it wasn't me...

Today is Sean's birthday (not pictured... he's stealthy like that).

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, SEAN!

Home Improvement

From the Department of "We Shouldn't Have Anything Nice":

This is Jesus, ripping out our ugly old carpeting on the stairs Tuesday morning...

Here are the new hardwood stairs with the new loopy carpeting installed yesterday:

And this is why we shouldn't be allowed to have anything nice in our house:

About an hour after the installation of the carpeting, we snagged it moving the bed back into position. There was a big bald spot with a long loop of yarn. You know how a towel gets those long attached loopy strings when you snag something on it? Like that. But on our brand new carpet!

Luckily, I have Tacky Glue. And bamboo skewers and lots of pins. Hopefully, this fix will hold for many years to come!

Of Saws and Pneumatic Nailers

Yippee! We have innernetz and phone connection again! It's been down since Sunday. I like our "fye-ose" when it works, but hate when you're in the middle of a conversation and all the sudden, you get busy signal. Or no signal.

I'm at home today while the new wood stairs are being installed. Actually, we had wood stairs under the carpeting, but not "show off" stairs. Meaning, it was just some kind of cheap wood sub-flooring material.

My query is... since the treads weren't pre-stained or finished, when they do that part, will I be stuck in the house while it dries? That would suck, no?

Will post pics after Jesus and his partner are completed.

Let's Face It

My cousin's wife sent me an invite last month to join Face-schbook so she could share pics with us... but it doesn't seem like she's on there anymore. Oh well. I have 2 friends so far. Tragic.

John and I are finally getting new carpeting on the main floor and wood treads on the stairs in the coming weeks. The beige construction-grade carpet installed when John bought the house has seen better days, especially in the high-traffic areas. Hopefully, what we've selected will wear much better and not show stains as much.

Through family (and Thai) tradition, I tend to take my shoes off when I come in the door. John likes to trample his elevator oil and dirt stained shoes through the house. Would it be wrong to make him put on those shower cap things over his shoes?

Anyway, hope everyone has been enjoying August. I will try to update more very soon. Toodles!
