Early Prezzies - Part II

It appears some of my friends like to skim the content of this here blog and look at the pictures (ahem... William!). Picture the image of the entertainment center from the last post without a tv in it. That's where we left off.

We finally picked out a new tv and got it Tuesday. Although a Sony (as suggested by Hogweed) would have been awesome, we chose a middle of the road model -- a Sharp. We have a smaller one in the bedroom and like it fine. Plus, the price was pretty good.

Oh, BTW, we have very sturdy circa 1990 coffee table, end table and entertainment center up for grabs. I'll post pics soon.

Tomorrow morning, we will get the new furniture and then head down to Leonardtown for the weekend. Saturday, we'll hold our annual Thanksgiving after Thanksgiving with a small group of friends. I really love throwing this little gathering. I'm usually really tired by the end of the evening (not more than our July party) but it's always great fun. We watch football, maybe take a walk down to the pier, eat turkey, play charades and just have a good time.

This year, we have a fire pit that has yet to be broken in. I hope it doesn't rain so we can have a little fire, roast some marshmallows and make s'mores.

Hope everyone had a happy Thanksgiving!

Early X-mas Prezzies

John and I have a perfectly good 32" tv in our living room but it's old school. We've been thinking about getting a flat panel but our current entertainment center won't hold anything much bigger than our current tv. So, we've been looking around for a new piece of furniture to hold a bigger tv and all our other media components. It's been really hard to find something with enough storage and convenient shelving. More importantly, not much that we've seen matches our coffee and end tables.

Yesterday, we went to Haverty's, saw a few possibilities and we were ready to give up and try another store. And then we found this:

Very nice piece, had enough storage and good placement for the components (namely, my beloved dvr!), and a decent price. The bad part is it didn't match our other furniture. The sales lady, Gloria, pointed us towards some matching pieces to the media center:

Next step... find a new tv! We've been scoping out a few models. I'm not sure what we'll get but it sure is exciting!

Random Terps Bits

It's been a couple Terps-filled weekends starting with my first MD basketball game at the Comcast Center last Saturday. I'd been inside the arena before -- mostly the perimeter to look at the NCAA Championship trophy and to the team store -- but to attend a game is a different story! Although it was just an exhibition game against a university with the same name as my high school, it was exciting none the less.

Here's Coach Williams during one of the time-outs:

And here's the final score:

Did ya notice #11 on the screen there? An Asian dude! What's up with that? Actually, he did pretty well in his first game at MD.

Yesterday, despite feeling pretty yucky in the morning, Johnny and I ventured out to the Terps / Tarheels football game. The rains came while we were tailgating and up went our tarp.

It actually stopped raining long enough for us to slosh our way to the stadium but it started raining again once we were inside.

It rained and finally stopped a bit before halftime. I need to find a more waterproof jacket! Here's Johnny, Carol (Julie's friend), William and Julie, glad to see the rain stop!

After halftime, Joey B and his girls, MB (Freddy's mystery guest) and Freddy joined our section:

And check out the final score:

Woooooo!!!! TERPS #1!!!

Go Terps!

Saturday, John and I are going to our first MD basketball game at Comcast Center! Woot!

I didn't even know there was a "Northwood" University -- just Northwood High School (my alma mater). Go Indians! Oh, I mean "Gladiators". They changed the mascot when Northwood re-opened a few years ago.

MD better beat this poo-poo team!!! Hopefully, they won't be like the football team and only beat Ranked teams. Tragic.

When Lovey Turned into Babs

As the costume stress turned into "this'll do", I stepped out of the house in a costume I wasn't really sure was as great as the concept. I'd show you pics, but I don't have a lot, especially of my costume. If you were on the Evite list, you probably got Bianca's e-mail and link to the pics she took.

Anyway, I knew something was off but couldn't pinpoint the problem. It wasn't until BHL told me that Mr. Howell (William) said I looked more like Barbara Bush than Lovey Howell that I knew my costume was a dud. It was a great idea for our group to come dressed as Gilligan's Island. Freddy was a magnificent Gilligan. Jess and Maria were great as Mary Ann and Ginger. Johnny had the clothing right for the Professor but his wig was a little off. Me? I was Babs Bush. Merrr.

I do much better impersonating cartoon characters (Kyle from "South Park" and Meg from "Family Guy"). There's always next year!
